negative emotions we mostly don't have much trouble with positive emotions except in the search to find them which leads to negative emotions if we fail in the search or in bipolar disorder but we do have problems with negative emotions
why is this? emotions have specific problems these include :
REPUGNANCE negative emotions are repugnant to us when we have trouble with them we tend to want to forget about it so we rarely analyse what is happening we rarely want even to admit them
ENDLESS they are always ready to work in and on us, always one second away from us waiting for the right item to provoke them so much so that we don't notice any more... we always search for happiness and failure in this is unhappiness, always possible, in the next instant.
no thought, word or action would happen without our wanting it. wanting is emotion. so everything that our minds do is powered by emotion. despite emotions' massive importance we manage to almost not see them or actively disregard them, a bit like the air we breathe, take it away and we don't last long
ALLURE some emotions like self pity melancholy depression anger tend to have an allure of their own so though anger is an ugly emotion it seems hard to let resist it's hold
CONFUSION the grip that emotions have on us is such that we tend often to consider life to be confusing and complex we then give up and say "it's a journey" everyone has to find their own truth which means mostly "don't ask me"
CAMOUFLAGE FROM US emotions often hide themselves from us inferiority feelings and anxiety, for example, often hide from us but they manifest as changed behavior nevertheless a negative emotion like arrogance can be at work but not identified at all some people spend their lives bewitched by this being concealed allows emotion to get on with it's job uninterrupted
CAMOUFLAGE AS US we think eg "i am angry" but it is just one programme running in our brain so we are at the mercy this is not an accident most emotions are felt as self other parts of your body are not considered to be self such as a leg or an eye they are just a part or our body emotions are just certain neural networks but we tend to see them as the most essential part of self this intense grip that emotions have on us is because we identify emotions as self it is the directive programme for dna survival powered by emotions that enables the sense of self this allows DNA to have almost complete control over us it looks like it has evolved to enable DNA to survive really it is that survival has enabled this DNA if we did not have emotions we would be like a computer capable of input, processing and output but without any directive, without 'orders' not sensing any self just awaiting instructions
COMPETITION the goals sometimes compete with eachother eg being competitive and yet communal or wanting stability but also liking change
GOAL FIXATION not seeing that effort in endeavours can generate contentment and that the apparent goal is not the only source of happiness (the attention in patient diligence of one only task also results in happiness because it frees us from the otherwise potentially multiple competing goals which tend to cram our minds, as we only have one thing to attend to ) this increases the hold emotions have on us because we are always scurrying towards goals
MIRAGE EFFECT the ultimate goal of happiness seems to be elusive it seems to be always around the corner, over the hill and once it has arrived it seems to fade... never seems permanent this increases emotion's grip on us too so we are always busy chasing the next thing this is dna encouraging us to always advance ourselves which is purely for the survival of dna
ESCALATION negative emotions escalate or have feedback easily both when we are subject to our own negative emotions and when we are subject to the negative emotions of others they should simply warn us that things are not right but they have a tendency to become dominant and to reduce our capacity for reasoning in caveman days this may have been appropriate but now it is a great deal less so this is a prime example of how emotions are inefficient even in achieving their own goals. emotions overstep and cause degrees of mayhem either the passive type of dysfunction of depression and self harm or the active type with violence, anger, drug abuse, crime, terrorism and war
