modern socioeconomic happiness

david m buss in "the evolution of happiness"
points out how the modern western world
has made society
into small family modules
and these often lack the close connections
that are present in  extended family or
wider networks of close friends

the result of this is the tendency to
look after the interests of the nuclear family
and the mentoring,
help when needed,
psychological support,
sense of community
are all less  present
making lifes trials more difficult

underneath this tendency
is the mass gravitation
that humans are making
towards the nuclear family
all over the world
this is extended phenotype...
...the expression of dna

and in this expression
the focus on self is becoming greater

we are all innately inclined to care for the self
on dna instruction
and this is filtering into the structure
of our world, abstract and physical,
as extended dna phenotype
it is partly expressed as status anxiety
