how the mind works

when the cavemen noticed that cooked meat and a warm fire were nice

they had not already come up with the idea of happiness
their thought processes were not at the level of
thinking about happpiness

the happiness simply arrived
in response to the warmth and the taste of the food

 cavemen sought happiness
and beforeand after them all our other ancestors
pursued all their activities for happiness

happiness is a reward system

in more primitive creatures there is a system which causes activity
and works like a reward system
but as organisms become less and less complex
the system becomes more of a command system
ants engage in their busy activity only because
a directive command programme operates in their nervous system

the same applies for all living things
nothing would occur unless a programme directs it to happen

the more complex the organism's nervous system
the more capable the programme to direct it
